The site, at the northern end of Sydney’s Central Business District, offers panoramic views toward the Harbour; the Opera House and the Bridge to the North East and Darling Harbour to the South West.
The plan form of the 45 storey office tower, is a quadrant and its opposing configuration maximise the sweep of the best views and open space outlook. The shape, based on clear geometry, inherently offers opportunities for a long span, column-free system of floor construction, whereby every structural span and beam are identical. Open plaza-recreation spaces for the thousands of office workers and visitors to the project are provided.
A central fountain with seating benches and outdoor eating amongst trees are contained on the northern sunny paved area.
On the opposite south western side of the tower, a glass covered plaza below the street offers a variety of restaurants and seating for lunchtime crowds.
Each three of the numerous external columns of the tower were “gathered” together with V shaped transfer members into a circular caisson. This gives appropriate scale and importance to the circular glazed entrance lobby.
