In partnership with local representatives JBC International Design Union, Harry Seidler & Associates have presented a project design for two major banks on a shared site in Shenzhen, China
On 10 November 2011 Harry’s Park was officially opened. This park, adjoining the office of Harry Seidler & Associates in Glen Street, Milsons Point, was gifted by Penelope Seidler to the people of Sydney in memory of Harry Seidler and celebrates his life, his contribution to architecture and the enrichment of our environment. It also bears his favoured inscription from the Vienna Secession Building:
To Each Time Its Art – To Art Its Freedom
Curved seating groups and ribbon walls framing views of Sydney Harbour are juxtaposed with straight elements such as screen walls. Free formed garden beds are set into the natural porphyry stone paved plaza. A sculpture, Tracing Light – For Harry 3D/4D by Robert Owen, completes the park.
9 Castlereagh Street, previously known as the Capita Centre, was relaunched on the 25 October 2011 by new owners Stockland following enhancements to the entrance by Harry Seidler & Associates.
An expanded gleaming glass lobby showcases the original porcelain tile mural by Artist Lin Utzon and a bronze sculpture by the late Charles Perry. An indoor outdoor café nestles into the sparkling lobby and fresh new rainforest planting to the forecourt.
Penelope Seidler was honoured by the French government in August when she was made a Chevalier of the Legion d’Honneur. It was presented to her by the French Ambassador to Australia HE Mr Michel Filhol.
Also in August, Penelope was awarded a Doctor of Letters honouris causa by the University of NSW.
After winning the Australian IES Lighting Design: Award of Excellence in 2010, the Grosvenor Place Ground Plane Refurbishment project was further honoured by also being awarded the corresponding International IES Lighting Design: Award of Excellence in 2011.
The lighting design by Harry Seidler & Associates includes an internally illuminated onyx stone wall, circular carpeted areas with additional accent lighting and new high intensity discharge lighting which has reduced the direct operating costs by about 70% while doubling the lit internal space.
